There are several things that a person will need to do when they get a harassing call.
The first thing is to write down all of the information about the phone call as soon as it is over. This information includes the time and date of the call, gender of the person that called you, how the voice of the person that called you sounded like, everything that the caller said to you, the estimated guess of the age of the caller, whether or not the caller was intoxication or on drugs, the tone of the caller’s voice, any background noise you heard, and the number or name that showed up.
The second thing is to file a police report. Most of the time, the phone company will block the number but you will still need to have a police report. Then you can ask the police to do one of the two options. The first option is to put a trap on your phone line. This will not cost you anything and the phone company will be able to see who is calling you. The second option is to use a call trace. This will only work if the phone call is coming from a local phone number. Plus there is a small fee each time this service is used.
The third thing is to block all phone calls that could be coming from a telemarketer. There are three main lists that the telemarketer’s phone number will need to be added to. The first list is the national do not call list. This list will block any home or wireless phone numbers but not any business numbers. The second list is the state do not call list. This list will block any number that comes from the state that you live in. The third list is the company specific do not call list. This will block specific companies from calling you.
The fourth thing is to block all fax calls. This means that a phone call will not be able to come through on your fax machine.
The fifth thing is to make sure that if your phone company offers a caller id service that you get it immediately.
The sixth thing is to make sure that your name and phone is private. This means that your phone number will not be listed in a phone book or any other type of directory service online.
The last thing is to block your phone number when you calling a number that you do not know.
